Create advanced views with FetchXML Builder

My first article published on MSDynamicsWorld.com gives a detailed instruction on how to use FetchXML Builder to create advanced views in Microsoft Dynamics CRM – so advanced they are not possible to create using the CRM UI.

  1. Great article Jonas. One question though. When creating these views and publishing back to the CRM solution, the views display the records correctly but Charts cannot render against the view. Is this a known constraint of editing the view in the XML? Charts cannot be used?

  2. Hi Rob!
It seems MS have not adopted to the new (?) not-in possibilities throughout the system. These views do not appear in lookup dialogs, they can break dynamic marketing lists (where they would actually be reeeeally convenient to use!) and there are a few other places where the system does not really like the manipulated queries.
I still have not seen any disclaimers about this in the documentation anywhere, so let's hope MS corrects the problems (rather than update the documentation).

  3. Hi Jonas. Fabulous work!

I think I've got them to work in the dynamic marketing lists. They require the entityname attribute to be set.

It would be interesting to hear the details of your findings regarding the marketing list! If any changes to FXB are needed, please submit an issue at https://github.com/Cinteros/FetchXMLBuilder/issues otherwise just send me an e-mail (click "About me" above)
      Thanks!
